چکیده

There has been a growing interest in large-scale sharedmemory multiprocessors that support a wide range of application workloads. The architectural trend of such systems has been towards a distributed architecture, where processors, memory modules, and I/O modules are distributed throughout the machine, connected by some form of interconnect (rings, meshes, trees). Examples include the Stanford DASH [10] and FLASH [9], Massachusetts Institute of Technology Alewife [2], University of Toronto Hector [15], and Kendall Square Research KSR-1 [3] multiprocessors. In this type of architecture, commonly referred to as a Non-Uniform Memory Access time (NUMA) system, managing the locality between various resources is key to obtaining good performance.

Modeling and Performance Evaluation of Multi-Processors Organization with Shared Memories

This paper is primarily concerned with theoretical evaluation of the performance of multiprocessors system. A markovian waiting line model has been developed for various different multi-processors configurations, with shared memory. The system is analysed at the request level rather than job level.

Virtual Clusters: Resource Mangement on Large Shared-memory Multiprocessors a Dissertation Submitted to the Department of Computer Science and the Committee on Graduate Studies of Stanford University in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy

Despite the fact that large scale shared-memory multiprocessors have been commercially available for several years, system software that fully utilizes all of their features is still not available. These machines require system software that is scalable, supports fault containment, and provides scalable resource management. Software supporting these features is currently unavailable, mostly due...

HFS : A flexible file system for shared - memory multiprocessors

The HURRICANE File System (HFS) is designed for large-scale, shared-memory multiprocessors. Its architecture is based on the principle that a file system must support a wide variety of file structures, file system policies and I/O interfaces to maximize performance for a wide variety of applications. HFS uses a novel, object-oriented building-block approach to provide the flexibility needed to ...

A Quantitative Analysis of the Performance and Scalability of Distributed Shared Memory

cache coherence protocols have become the key technology for creating moderate to large-scale shared-memory multiprocessors. Although the performance of such multiprocessors depends critically on the performance of the cache coherence protocol, little comparative performance data is available. Existing commercial implementations use a variety of different protocols including bit-vector/coarse-v...

Simulation-based Performability Evaluation of Fault-tolerant Multiprocessors

We present a case study of performance and dependability evaluation of fault-tolerant multiprocessors. A distributed shared-memory multiprocessor architecture providing faulttolerance is analyzed taking into account system functionalities, actual workloads, failures of system components as well as the inter-component dependences. Since the evaluation of such a complex system has to be performed...
